Cigar Box is an old school staple of KC.  It's an interesting place and typically has an older Italian man singing on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. 
If you want BBQ: Jack Stack in the Freight House District and Q39 in Westport are solid options.
The Jacobson in the Crossroads District has a nice selection of food and Craft Cocktails.
The Drum Room is in the Hilton President Hotel located in Power and Light District.  It's old with a lot of history.
